Rules and Regulations

STUDENT RULES AND REGULATIONS

Rules and regulations are essential to the efficient operation of any business.  They are the corner stone of any successful operation.  The following rules have been established for the common guidance of all of us in this school.  They are fundamental in character and are designed for the convenience and protection of all of us and to give us a more efficient and successful school.  It is my policy to be patient, sympathetic, fair and tolerant in the administration of this school.

It is the sincere desire of LEXINGTON BEAUTY COLLEGE to help this student body in every way possible, so that all of us may go forward together in a successful future, but willful or inexcusable breaches of these rules will be dealt with firmly under a uniform policy, which applies, equally to all individuals.

These rules are not meant cover all school policies and procedures exclusively.  The school reserves the right in cases of unusual or related infractions of these rules, to deal with the individual student according to the seriousness of the offense. MOST OFFENSES ARE MET WITH A POINT DEDUCTION ON YOUR PRACTICAL.

We realize that most of these rules are based on personal responsibility, adult behaviors, and common sense.  However we must let you know what we expect from you, and what you can expect from us. The most importantly, you are learning a profession that is going to enable you to walk in to the world and work in the Cosmetology profession. We wish you the very best as you begin a new and exciting career.

1. Students are to report to school in accordance with their student contracts. You must stay all day on your last day of the week. Full time day students are scheduled for 8.5 hours so that they allowed a thirty-minute lunch, which will be deducted from your scheduled contracted time.

2.  Any day students clocking in later than five minutes are late. See attendance policy.   Saturdays  are mandatory, and if you need to miss, must pay an attendance fine of $5.25 per hour missed. A doctor’s note will exempt you from the fine. The day before or after a holiday is a double fine.

3. No one will be allowed to clock you in or out under any circumstances. The State Board of Cosmetology in conjunction with the Kentucky Revised Statutes forbids fraud of any kind in relation to your timecards. If you are caught committing fraud on your time card, you may be reported to the State Board, and lose your ability to ever hold a license in Cosmetology in the State of Kentucky.

4. You must clock in and out, including your half hour lunch. No write-ins will be accepted. Please use the time clock, as students are scheduled by contract, as we cannot keep up with your time card for you. You are required to clock out for a break after five hours. Lunch is the only break that is guaranteed. All other breaks are at the decision of your staff in your area.

5. Students are not permitted to loaf anywhere at the school. You are expected to be working while you are at the school. You may sit at your station and read Educational Materials, or be in the classroom studying in the event a class is not taking place. Do not stay on the porch for more than your break. If you abuse breaks, you can lose them.

6. Students must use their time constructively, doing practical work on their mannequins or completing book assignments when not in class or working in the clinic.

7. Student’s stations are to be set up, ready to take a customer immediately after class or at start of day.

8. Student’s stations are to be clean of all working materials and debris before leaving for lunch.

9. Students are expected to eat breakfast before coming to school. Students eating breakfast after clocking in will lose  5 points. Night students are able to take a fifteen-minute break to smoke and eat a snack sometime within the hours of five and eight, set down by the instructor on duty. The school manager schedules lunch. NO eating in class!

10. Do not borrow or loan equipment to others. You will have to replace equipment if someone does not return it. There is some school equipment that you will be able to sign out, and in that case, you are responsible to see that it gets signed back in the dispensary. If you have lost equipment, and do not have the proper equipment to do a service, you will lose five points.

11. School strictly forbids the use or possession of alcohol or other drugs on the property. If you are suspected of drug or alcohol use while on the property, you will be asked to take a drug test, and if found guilty, may have to complete a drug program through the school, or be suspended until one is completed.

12. You must follow and keep up with studies and schedules outlined by the Educational Coordinator and/or your teacher. Exams must be taken on schedule. 17. Any student found stealing supplies or equipment from the school or fellow student would be expelled immediately. In addition, the reason for expulsion will be recorded and given to the State Board of Cosmetology.

18. Your equipment is to be left at your station, and not be taken home until your course of study has been completed (201, Section 12, KAR 12:12:125. School’s Student Administrative Regulations). This law protects the public and you from conducting hairdressing in an arena that is not a school. Bring your family and friends to the school for practice. If you are reported to the Board, you may never receive licensure to practice in a salon.  Students are not allowed to carry anything but a book, workbook, and a notebook in and out the door. Anything else must be in a clear zip-lock bag and open to inspection.  NO THEFT

19. The front desk will assign clients to you. Sometimes you may not like the assignment, but refusal to do your client will result in a five-day suspension. You may not re-assign a client to another student.

20. We reserve the right to suspend or expel a student from school for insubordination, refusal to cooperate with staff, follow directions and instructions, follow assigned schedules and duties, or in any case where the staff feels the student is not adapting to our training. Suspensions can last one to nine days depending on the severity of the offense.

22. Eating and drinking are permitted in the break room only! Two dollar fine for this offense.

23. State board and the school prohibit personal items at your station. These include pictures, Walkman sets, and any other personal items not used for clients. Pagers and cell phones are NOT permitted. If you have a cell phone, we do not want to see or hear it. Five point deduction when these are violated. Cell phones may be confiscated till the end of the day, with a written report from the student stating why talking on the phone is unprofessional. Subject to $2.00 fine if continually violated.

Lock up your personal items in your locker.  Students must pay $10.00 deposit to use the school locker, but get the $10.00 back when returning the key. Please attend classes regularly. Once you are on the clinic floor, you will have appointments booked for you. Without the clinic, your education would be more costly, and much more boring.   It is very important for you to learn to be timely and dependable, as this will continue to be true when you become licensed.

33. Students who fail to complete their education within the time on their enrollment contract due to absences will be charged additional tuition as stated in that contract. This extra fee will be collected monthly until you graduate to compensate the school for your inability to keep your contract. If you fall two months behind on your payments, you will be asked to go home and get the payments.

34. When you near the end of your enrollment, the school will send your hours to the board for qualification of the exam. At the time of this test you must bring a money order for $75 made payable to the State Board of Cosmetologists, and a recent photo of yourself. The state board will then inform you as to what day to arrive to take the test. The test is at the State Board office in Frankfort Kentucky.
